Frequently Asked Questions

How long have you been officiating weddings?
Rev. Benny Raskin has been an ordained minister since 2005. His first wedding was for his brother Michael and sister-in-law Melissa—who are still happily married two decades later. Since then, Rev. Benny has officiated dozens of unique and heartfelt ceremonies.
No two weddings have ever been the same. From Boston to Chicago to the Wasatch Front, he’s led services in churches, backyards, a lumber mill, city parks, and along scenic foothills. He’s navigated everything from unpredictable weather and missing rings to tricky sound systems and nervous in-laws—all to ensure each couple has a joyful, memorable ceremony.
For Rev. Benny, officiating weddings isn’t just a role—it’s a privilege filled with energy, joy, and deep meaning. Plus, it’s a ton of fun.

How far in advance do we need to book with you?
We recommend booking as early as possible to secure your preferred date—whether that’s a year in advance, two weeks out, or even the same day (if available). Once your deposit is placed, your date is locked in.
To ensure each couple receives our full attention, Juniper Flats only schedules one wedding per day on weekends. We’re happy to coordinate with your wedding planner to confirm and secure your date.
Where does Juniper Flats perform wedding ceremonies?
Juniper Flats Ministry proudly officiates weddings throughout the state of Utah. Ceremonies held in Salt Lake County are considered local and do not incur additional travel fees.
For weddings outside of Salt Lake County, a travel fee may apply, which will be discussed and agreed upon during the booking process.

What happens if we need to cancel or change our wedding date?
We understand that plans can change—but to respect everyone’s time and preparation, all cancellations will result in a forfeited deposit.
If you need to reschedule, we’re happy to accommodate your new date as long as you notify Juniper Flats at least two weeks in advance and the new date is available.
Changes requested within two weeks of the ceremony will be treated as a cancellation, and the deposit will not be refunded.
Will you attend our wedding rehearsal?
Yes, Rev. Benny is happy to attend your wedding rehearsal for a $85 fee, provided it’s scheduled in advance and included in your service agreement. While the wedding planner or coordinator typically leads the rehearsal, Rev. Benny is available to walk through the ceremony, answer questions, and ensure everyone feels confident about their roles.
To keep things efficient and focused, we ask that rehearsals be limited to one hour, as the ceremony itself is designed to run no longer than 30 minutes.
Will you be a guest at our reception following the wedding service?
Our focus is on delivering a meaningful ceremony that honors your relationship and the commitment you're making. After the service, Rev. Benny will ensure all legal documents are signed, take photos with the couple if desired, and then quietly step away—allowing you to fully enjoy your celebration with family and friends.
How do you get legally married in Utah?
To get married in Utah, you’ll need to follow a few simple steps:
Apply for a marriage license at any Utah county clerk’s office. Both parties must appear in person with valid photo ID (like a driver’s license or passport) and provide basic personal information, including Social Security numbers (if applicable).
No waiting period—you can marry immediately after receiving your license.
The license is valid for 32 days, so your ceremony must take place within that window.
You must have an officiant to perform the ceremony. This can be a judge, an elected official, or a minister or religious leader—like Rev. Benny—who is authorized to solemnize marriage under Utah law.
Two witnesses over the age of 18 must be present at the ceremony.
After the ceremony, your officiant will sign and return the completed license to the county clerk to make your marriage official.
Where did the name Juniper Flats originate?
While juniper berries are famously known as the key botanical in gin, the name Juniper Flats holds much deeper meaning for Rev. Benny. He’s always felt a special connection to the juniper tree—a hardy, evergreen plant that thrives in rugged environments. Junipers symbolize strength, resilience, and perseverance, and their evergreen nature represents eternity and enduring life.
In 1 Kings 19:4–5, the juniper tree is a place of divine compassion and renewal, where the prophet Elijah found rest and restoration. That sacred stillness reflects the kind of spiritual refuge Juniper Flats Ministry hopes to offer.
With their aromatic blue berries, needle-like foliage, and weathered bark, junipers are not only beautiful—they’re distinct, tough, and deeply rooted in the western landscape. For all these reasons, we couldn’t imagine a more fitting name for the ministry.
